Growing up!

I've been writing a book for my daughter.
It's about the way I grew up from the time I can remember,(about 4 years old).
It pertains to the houses I grew up in, the pets I had, our neighbours; my brothers.
A friend and I were getting a good laugh the other day of some of the games we used to play in the school yard and how texting your friends is the thing to do in the school yard these days!
Where did the fun go?
Kids don't play hopscotch or double dutch or even Marbles. They aren't allowed to play marbles anymore, just in case someone decides it's better to whip one at your head then actually trying to get that rare Cat's Eye you have and they want. It was a big thing to bring your bag of marbles to school. Remember putting them in the nice purplish Crown Royal bag with the draw string?
Do they even play Jacks anymore? What was the name of that ring you used to put around your ankle with a string attached and a ball or bell attached to the end of that?
When I think about now and then, we had a pretty good upbringing. You could go a few blocks from home with your friends and not worry about someone trying to grab you off your bike. Yes I know it went on, just not as noticeable as it is now. Back in the '60's when I was growing up, the neighbours all knew who you were. Trust me, if you got in trouble a couple blocks away, there was one mean momma bear waiting for you when you got home. She ALREADY heard what you did!!!
Do you remember Penny Candy? Caramels, Mojos, black babies, pixie stix, jawbreakers, sugar cones, Popeye Cigarettes? You could fill up a brown bag for about .25 cents!
I could go on and on but I'd like it if you could remember the games you used to play as a kid.
Enjoy!!
